VIDEO: Steven Tyler performs on American Idol finale

Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler delivered the debut live performance of his first country single, “Love Is Your Name”, on the season 14 finale of American Idol on Wednesday.

Tyler performed the tune on the day of its release, before teasing a snippet of “Walk This Way” as a segue to a cover of Janis Joplin’s “Piece Of My Heart” with third place contestant Jax.

The singer has been in Nashville since January working with songwriters on material for his debut solo album on Big Machine Records’ affiliated label Dot Records.

Next month, Tyler will regroup with Aerosmith for the Blue Army Tour, with summer dates beginning in Glendale, Arizona on June 13.

Aerosmith: Steven Tyler loved and hated American Idol gig

A few weeks ago, Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler announced his departure from American Idol following two seasons on the reality series.

“After some long......hard......thoughts…I’ve decided it’s time for me to let go of my mistress ‘American Idol’ before she boils my rabbit,” said Tyler. “I strayed from my first love, Aerosmith, and I’m back - but instead of begging on my hands and knees, I got two fists in the air and I’m kicking the door open with my band. The next few years are going to be dedicated to kicking some serious ass - the ultimate in auditory takeover… On Nov 6, we are unleashing our new album, Music from Another Dimension on the Earth, Moon, Mars, and way beyond the stars…’Idol’ was over the top fun, and I loved every minute of it…Now it’s time to bring Rock Back. ERMAHGERD.”

Back in the saddle full-time with the Boston band, Tyler now admits that Aerosmith's troubles were the principal reason he signed up with Idol in 2010.

"It was something to do while the storm blew by, to be honest," he tells Rolling Stone, calling the show "not my cup of tea." Regarding his two-season stint, for which he was reportedly paid $10 million a season, he now says, "I loved it and hated it. It was a great job, I sat next to J. Lo and I made a ton of money. It was a moment in life and it became larger than life."

The downside, he says, was the workload and his supposed role as the new Simon Cowell. "It was just hard work: seven-hour days and then I went and did the [Aerosmith] album for eight hours after that," Tyler says.

Of criticisms that he and Jennifer Lopez, who is also exiting the show, weren't hard enough on most of the contestants, he explains, "The show's about kids and what you do to nurture their talent. They wanted me to take the piss out of the kids and I don't have that in me. That's not what I'm about. That's more about that other guy. Not me"

Aerosmith are currently on their Global Warming tour with Cheap Trick.

Jennifer Lopez says Steven Tyler influenced decision to leave American Idol

Jennifer Lopez is sharing more details behind her decision to leave American Idol.

A day after Steven Tyler announced his departure from the reality show to return full-time to Aerosmith, J. Lo went public with her exit plans on Friday when she called in to Idol host Ryan Seacrest’s radio show. “I honestly feel like the time has come that I get back to doing the other things that I do,” she said. “We had an amazing run.”

In an ABC-TV interview on Sunday, Lopez spoke further about the situation.

"We had magic," Lopez told ABC News' Amy Robach. "I don't know, with him [Tyler] gone, it might be a different formula."

Jennifer did share some thoughts on some possible new judges for the series.

"I think like Bono or Bon Jovi or Mick Jagger," she said. "You know me, I think big."

On Saturday, Lopez kicked off a North American tour with Enrique Iglesias and Wisin Y Yandel in Montreal.

On July 24, Jennifer will release her first-ever greatest hits package. “Dance Again…the Hits” features a dozen career-spanning hits and two new chart-topping songs: “Goin’ In” (featuring Flo Rida) and “Dance Again” (featuring Pitbull).

Aerosmith: Steven Tyler leaves American Idol

Steven Tyler is back in the saddle full-time with Aerosmith once again.

Tyler announced Thursday that he has decided to depart his role as a judge on American Idol, following two seasons on the reality series.

ERMAHGERD.”

Steven Tyler is a real ‘Idol,’ a rock legend. If you had told me 10 years ago he would be a judge on American Idol, I would have thought it impossible,” said Idol creator and executive producer Simon Fuller. “The fact that this became a reality and we had the pleasure of him gracing our stage for two seasons makes me very proud. I completely understand his desire to get back to his life as the singer in America's greatest-ever rock band.”

Aerosmith’s new album, “Music From Another Dimension,” is due November 6. The band are currently on their Global Warming summer tour with special guests Cheap Trick.

There may be other changes coming to the judge’s panel at Idol, as rumors continue that Jennifer Lopez may also return to focus full-time on her music and television production careers; there’s no word on Randy Jackson’s status with the program, as of yet, either.

VIDEO: Steven Tyler makes fun of Jennifer Lopez’ Oscar wardrobe malfunction

There’s still a debate about the status of Jennifer Lopez’ apparent wardrobe malfunction at the Oscars on Sunday night.

Some believe more of Lopez’ left breast was exposed than should have been, as she squeezed into a form-fitting dress for her on stage presenter duties.

Decide for yourself by watching the video here.

In the meantime, fellow American Idol judge Steven Tyler had some fun with the whole thing on Tuesday’s Idol show, the first live broadcast of the season.

When host Ryan Seacrest stopped by the judges table to chat, Tyler said, “I’m as confused as a baby in a topless bar,” before pulling back his shirt to expose his chest and asking, “Wait, wait… Who am I?”

“I don’t even know what to say to that. Ryan, save me right now!” Jennifer replied.

Seacrest clarified things for the viewing audience, “That was an Oscar re-enactment, ladies and gentlemen.”

Jennifer Lopez not planning duet with Steven Tyler

The battle between reality singing contests continues this spring with The Voice and American Idol currently up and running, while other shows are set to return later this spring.

Following the success of The Voice mentors Adam Levine and Christina Aguilera teaming up for their collaboration of Maroon 5’s "Moves Like Jagger," MTV reports music fans shouldn’t expect Idol judges Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler to follow in their footsteps.

"None of us are kind of followers in that way," Lopez told MTV News. "We kind of do what feels right, and anybody that's been in the business a long time knows that you don't chase."

"You set the trail. You go out front, and anything that we do is something that feels good to us," she said, leaving the door open just a crack. "If that happened, it would happen. If a performance happened, it would happen. But it would have to feel real. ... Last year, we talked about performing together on the show for the finale, and we just couldn't agree on the same thing that felt good for all of us, so we just didn't do it.”

Steven Tyler continued his promo swing for this week’s American Idol premiere with an appearance on the Ellen DeGeneres Show on Tuesday.

Tyler’s interview covered a range of topics beyond Idol, including his recent engagement to Erin Brady, Aerosmith and his sobriety.

As outlined in his autobiography, “Does The Noise In My Head Bother You?”, part of the sobriety discussion involved Steven explaining how he did cocaine on stage during Aerosmith concerts.

“I, being the lead singer,” began Tyler, “could lean over – in a Coca-Cola can, dumped out, emptied, dried out with a hair dryer, with blow in the bottom with a straw on it – and instead of going like this [leans over to drink from straw], I’d go [sniffs from straw].”

Season 11 of American Idol kicks off Wednesday.

Steven Tyler: Aerosmith sales are up since he joined American Idol

Steven Tyler and his fellow American Idol judges – Jennifer Lopez and Randy Jackson – are doing major press interviews these days to promote the return of the popular talent series.

In a new session with Access Hollywood, Tyler talked about the transition he made from rock star to TV star during Season 10 of Idol.

“[Last season] it wasn’t really accepted up front [with the rock community], mostly from my own bandmates because they didn’t know what was going on with the Aerosmith thing at the end. But it’s brought younger kids to our music anyway,” said Steven, noting Aerosmith sales last year were up 260 percent.

Additionally, Tyler says it’s been hard for him to now step out in public.

“It’s like, ‘Really?'… I can’t go anywhere anymore,” he said.

The two-night premiere of Season 11 of American Idol begins Wednesday, January 18.

Read more details at Access Hollywood here.

Aerosmith are set to return with a new album sometime this Spring; the band and producer Jack Douglas have mentioned March as a tentative timeline for its release.

Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler returns to prime time television next week as American Idol returns with a two-night premiere to kick off Season 11.

Tyler joins fellow judges Jennifer Lopez and Randy Jackson for another round of the series, and he recently told Oprah how impressed he was with the level of talent they review.

“Half these kids that we send home,” Steven told the talk show legend, “are twice as good as Janis Joplin was when she she sang her first note. Or I was. I look at these kids and I go, ‘Oh, my God, I really sucked.’ I would have gotten thrown off the show. All these kids need is 2 to 3 years of clubs and they could be as good as anyone out there.”

In a recent session with FOX’s All Access, Tyler and the panel were asked what they were looking for in the audition process.

“The genre of good,” said the Aerosmith singer. “If it’s good, we love it.”

American Idol returns on Wednesday, January 18.

Steven Tyler’s engagement confirmed by jeweler

While fans await official word from Steven Tyler, his jeweler tells People magazine that the rocker is engaged to longtime girlfriend Erin Brady.

According to jeweler Loree Rodkin, the proposal was a surprise.

“He was working, so I picked stones, built settings, showed him choices and sent him pictures on his phone,” she tells People. “He asked for guidance but the choice was his. Having made jewelry for both Erin and Steven made it an effortless process, as I know their taste.”

Word spread when the couple were photographed in Maui on Christmas Day, with Erin sporting a new diamond ring on her finger.

Brady’s ring is a 5-carat, brilliant-cut diamond, which sits on a micro pave diamond-and-platinum band.

A spokesperson for Rodkin tells People the ring is totally unique. “It’s one of a kind, like all of her pieces. Steven has been a client of Loree’s for many years, and often wears rings by her, as well as other jewelry.”

The two have been dating since 2006. It will be Tyler’s third time down the aisle: he was married twice before, to Cyrinda Foxe in 1978, and clothing designer Teresa Barrick in 1988.

Check out more details and a photo at People here.

Tyler returns to TV on the Season 11 premiere of American Idol, airing January 18.
