Adele holds on to US #1 for 18th week

Adele’s “21” is still tops in the U.S.

The singer holds on to the #1 spot on the Billboard 200 albums chart for the 18th week, selling nearly 116,000 copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

MTV reports “21” has now tied Garth Brooks' “Ropin' the Wind” for 18 non-consecutive weeks at #1; she needs just three more weeks atop the chart to move past the "Bodyguard" soundtrack and Elvis Presley's “Blue Hawaii,” both of which notched 20 weeks at #1.

Adele’s closest chart competition comes in the form of Tim McGraw's “Emotional Traffic,” which scores the week's biggest debut, opening at #2 with sales of nearly 68,000 copies. Lamb of God's “Resolution” bows at #3, selling almost 53,000 copies. The 2012 Grammy Nominees compilation (more than 52,000 copies sold) and Ingrid Michaelson's “Human Again” (nearly 40,000 copies sold) round out the top five.

This week, Adele confirmed her live singing return will happen on the Grammys on February 12 in Los Angeles..

"I'm immensely proud to have been asked to perform at this year's Grammy Awards," said Adele in a statement. "It's an absolute honor to be included in such a night, and for it to be my first performance in months is very exciting and of course nerve-racking, but what a way to get back into it all."
