Shakira: Latin Grammy Person Of The Year

Shakira was honored Thursday night as the Latin Grammy Person Of The Year.

The Colombian superstar was recognized at the 12th annual event, held at the Mandalay Bay Hotel in Las Vegas.

Billboard reports Shakira received her award from Marc Anthony, who made a surprise appearance for the occasion.

"It's an honor to be in your same area code," said Anthony, marveling at Shakira's accomplishments. "And you did it your way, you did it your way, you did it your way."

Shakira closed the evening, singing not one of her major radio hits, but the salsa song "En Barranquilla Me Quedo," an homage to her hometown on Colombia's coast.

It was the second honor of the week for Shakira – she received a star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame on Tuesday.

Shakira’s new concert DVD, “Shakira, Live From Paris,” will be released on December 6.
