Shakira gets star on Hollywood Walk Of Fame

Shakira was honored Tuesday with a star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame.

The star is located at 6270 Hollywood Boulevard, in front of the W Hollywood Hotel, on the world famous corner of Hollywood and Vine.

Leron Gubler, President/CEO of Hollywood Chamber and Los Angeles Council President Eric Garcetti and Shakira's family helped her unveil the 2,354th star in the Category of Recording.

“I'd like to thank you all for this honor,” said Shakira. “I would like to share it with all of those in the US that have listened and understood my music and giving sense to everything I do. Especially, I would like to dedicate this to the latin community in the US that restlessly works and dreams and dreams and works every day, making this a better country.”

Beyond music, The Hollywood Chamber Of Commerce also recognizes the global charity works that Shakira is involved in, including her “Pies Descalzos” (Barefoot) Foundation, which she started at the age of 18 and has recently, opened its sixth school. The foundation provides education and nutrition to more than six thousand impoverished children in Colombia and is expanding its work to other countries, including newly-launched projects in Haiti and South Africa.

Shakira has also become a leading advocate for universal education, speaking to world leaders on the topic and advocating policy change to governments around the world. (The remarkable position she has reached was evident during a recent trip to New York, when she addressed President Bill Clinton's Global Initiative summit one day, then headlined a sold-out show at Madison Square Garden the next.)

In October 2011, Shakira was named to the White House Education commission; this appointment confirms Shakira's status as an important international philanthropist and advocate for social causes.

It’s quite a week of honors for the Columbia pop superstar: Shakira will also be celebrated as "The 2011 Person of the Year" by the Latin Recording Academy, during the 12th Annual Latin Grammy Awards on November 10 in Las Vegas.

Shakira will release her new concert DVD, “Shakira, Live From Paris,” on December 6.
