Adam Lambert debuts at top of US album charts

Adam Lambert has debuted at the top of the US album charts.

Billboard reports Lambert’s new album, “Trespassing,” lands at #1 on the Billboard 200 chart with first-week sales of 77,000 copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

Adam bumped fellow American Idol alum Carrie Underwood out of top spot, as she moves down to #3 this week, with Adele’s “21” sitting at #2.

Lambert is the seventh Idol finalist to reach top spot, following Kelly Clarkson, Ruben Studdard, Clay Aiken, Underwood, Chris Daughtry (of Daughtry) and Scotty McCreery.

“Trespassing” is Lambert's first #1 album and is his second major label studio set. It follows 2009's "For Your Entertainment," which debuted and peaked at #3 with 198,000 sold in its first week.
