Mariah Carey leaves American Idol

Pop diva Mariah Carey has announced her exit from American Idol after one season as judge on the long-running reality singing competition.

Mariah confirmed the news via a tweet from her publicist: "W/ global success of 'Beautiful' (#1 in 30+ countries so far) @MariahCarey confirms world tour & says goodbye 2 Idol."

Carey’s representatives said the singer has a "jam-packed" scheduled that includes "putting the finishing touches on her much anticipated forthcoming album, headlining the Macy's 4th of July Fireworks Spectacular and appearing in Lee Daniel's The Butler, opening in August." The film's cast also includes Oprah Winfrey, Forest Whitaker, Vanessa Redgrave, Jane Fonda, Cuba Gooding Jr. and Lenny Kravitz.

Mariah world tour is scheduled to kick off this October in Asia.

Carey’s news follows the recent departures of Nicki Minaj and original Idol judge Randy Jackson; there’s still no word on country star Keith Urban’s status for next season.
