BREAKING NEWS: Katy Perry, Russell Brand divorcing

Katy Perry and Russell Brand are officially over.

People magazine reports Brand filed for divorce in L.A. Friday, citing irreconcilable differences.

"Sadly, Katy and I are ending our marriage," he said. "I'll always adore her and I know we'll remain friends."

The California-born pop star, 27, and the British comedian-turned-actor began dating in 2009.

Brand popped the question four months later, and they were married in October 2010 in a lavish ceremony – that included two elephants as well as acrobats and jugglers – at a luxury resort in northern India.

Steven Tyler’s engagement confirmed by jeweler

While fans await official word from Steven Tyler, his jeweler tells People magazine that the rocker is engaged to longtime girlfriend Erin Brady.

According to jeweler Loree Rodkin, the proposal was a surprise.

“He was working, so I picked stones, built settings, showed him choices and sent him pictures on his phone,” she tells People. “He asked for guidance but the choice was his. Having made jewelry for both Erin and Steven made it an effortless process, as I know their taste.”

Word spread when the couple were photographed in Maui on Christmas Day, with Erin sporting a new diamond ring on her finger.

Brady’s ring is a 5-carat, brilliant-cut diamond, which sits on a micro pave diamond-and-platinum band.

A spokesperson for Rodkin tells People the ring is totally unique. “It’s one of a kind, like all of her pieces. Steven has been a client of Loree’s for many years, and often wears rings by her, as well as other jewelry.”

The two have been dating since 2006. It will be Tyler’s third time down the aisle: he was married twice before, to Cyrinda Foxe in 1978, and clothing designer Teresa Barrick in 1988.

Check out more details and a photo at People here.

Tyler returns to TV on the Season 11 premiere of American Idol, airing January 18.

Coldplay singer kicks fan off his property

Coldplay are such nice guys they can’t even be mean to their stalkers.

The Mirror reports Coldplay leader Chris Martin was forced to boot out an intruder who broke into the grounds of the house he shares with Gwyneth Paltrow – to serenade passers-by with a few Coldplay songs.

“I had a guy the other day who climbed over the gate of our house and started singing Coldplay songs to his friends on the street,” said Martin.

The 34-year-old let him murder three or four of the band’s hits before intervening with the words: “Listen, you’re just not doing that right.”

Martin went on to explain, “He politely left. It was bordering on intrusion. Still, it’s nice that people like the songs.”

Coldplay will be featured in concert on the first-ever Austin City Limits New Year’s Eve special. The rare 90-minute episode can be seen on PBS stations across the U.S. on Saturday, December 31 at 11pm ET.

The show will also available in the US online at pbs.org at the same time.

Coldplay recently announced the first series of dates for their spring/summer tour of North America in support of "Mylo Xyloto"; things kick off April 17 in Edmonton.

Kohaku is broadcast every year in Japan from 7:15pm to 11:45pm on December 31.

Gaga will appear live on the show from New York City; the performance would take place mid-morning New York time to coincide with the broadcast time in Japan.

Following her Japanese broadcast, Gaga will appear later that night on Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve special.

The pop phenomenon will perform live in front of a crowd of an estimated one million people in Times Square just before the ball drops at midnight.

VIDEO: Watch Beyonce’s tribute to Michael Jackson

Family, friends and fellow performers gather together in Wales in October to pay tribute to Michael Jackson.

One of the invited performers at the Michael Forever Tribute Concert was Beyonce, who explained she had some strong emotional ties to Michael from an early age.

“I remember seeing Michael Jackson for the first time,” Beyonce said. “Lord knows I fell in love. Watching him, I realized exactly what I wanted to be. He inspired me so much. As a matter of fact, the first song I ever performed with Destiny’s Child was a Jackson 5 song. It’s called ‘I Wanna Be Where You Are.’ It was the song we auditioned to get our record deal. It was the beginning of our future. I love you forever, Michael Jackson.”

And with that introduction, Beyonce rocked the Jackson 5 tune; video of her full performance has now surfaced.

Nude sketch of Lady Gaga auctioned for charity

Tony Bennett’s nude sketch of Lady Gaga has raised some big money for charity.

The Financial Express reports the sketch fetched $30,000 at an eBay Celebrity auction, with proceeds benefiting both singers’ foundations: Bennett's Exploring the Arts and Gaga's Born This Way.

The pair recently recorded a version of “The Lady Is A Tramp” for Tony’s “Duets II” album.

They hooked up in person at Gaga’s Vanity Fair photo shoot by Annie Leibovitz, where Tony, a renowned artist in his own right, sketched the pop icon.

Gaga recently joked about the scene during her Thanksgiving special, saying "I walked in and said, ‘Well, Tony, here we are,’ and I dropped my robe and I got into position. I felt shy and thought, ‘It's Tony Bennett. Why am I naked?’”

“Half these kids that we send home,” says Steven, “are twice as good as Janis Joplin was when she she snag her first note. Or I was. I look at these kids and I go, ‘Oh, my God, I really sucked.’ I would have gotten thrown off the show. All these kids need is 2 to 3 years of clubs and they could be as good as anyone out there.”

Tyler is on the reality series’ judging panel with Jennifer Lopez and Randy Jackson; American Idol returns for Season 11 on Wednesday, January 18, 2012.

Britney Spears has Rolling Stone’s Top Song of 2011

It wasn’t a single, but Britney Spears’ “How I Roll” has been named Top Song of 2011 by Rolling Stone.

The track, from Britney’s “Femme Fatale” album, took top spot in the magazine’s Pop Life column by Rob Sheffield.

The list is made up of Sheffield’s “25 favorite songs of 2011, including but not limited to: hits, obscurities, disco jams, guitar monsters, boof-boof chants, pelican-fly rappers and karaoke-room-clearers. And Stevie Nicks, obviously.”

Spears finshed ahead of songs by Big Sean, Beyonce, EMA, Bon Iver, and the team of Jay-Z/Kanye West.

Rob describes “How I Roll” this way:

“Britney hooks up with the Swedish production duo Bloodshy and Avant, who also gave her "Toxic" in 2004 and "Piece of Me" in 2007, and like the first two chapters of the trilogy, it's fiendishly inventive girl noise. Every sound effect that jumps out of the mix – Brit slurring the word "speakerrrr," digital finger-snaps, a real beatbox pretending to be a human beatbox – builds the tension.

There's even a plot: An ordinary girl sits in her lonely room, dreaming of party lights far away, wishing she could escape to a place where she can show her kneesocks and drink tequila on the rocks, where there's music and there's people and they're young and alive.

But the mean old world won't let her break free, so she just sings along with the machines until she turns into a machine herself, because only the beat understands her. There's your story of pop music right there.”
